My Favorite Self Tanning Products
Happy Friday! One of the questions I am asked most is what self tanner I use, so I wanted to share my whole process! Being tan is one of my favorite things in the whole world. As I have gotten older, I realize I shouldn’t be baking in the sun for hours, so I wear a lot of sunscreen and rely on self tanner for a nice glow.
First up, prep the skin by exfoliating and moisturizing. I use my loofah in the shower to exfoliate. Next, I like to moisturize. I have found that self tanner goes on more evenly when my skin is moisturized, but I don’t want anything too thick or else it will block the self tanner. I like to use Jergens Wet Skin Moisturizer in the shower. I actually bought this for Lance and ended up using it myself!
Once I’m out of the shower and completely dry, I apply the self tanning mousse. This Self Tanning Mitt Applicator has been a game-changer for me! It’s really soft and makes the mousse super easy to apply. And I love that I can just throw it in the washing machine every week.
I start with the St. Tropez Self Tan Classic Bronzing Mousse on my face. Just one squirt is enough. Then I use the St. Tropez Self Tan Dark Bronzing Mousse for my body (although now there is a new, darker mousse I’m dying to try!). I start on my legs and work my way up my body. I make sure that I don’t miss any spots like the back of my legs or arms. I am flexible enough to do my back on my own (you just put self tanner on the back of the mitt), but if Lance is around and not busy, I’ll have him do it. This whole process probably takes about 5 minutes, so it’s super quick! The mousse goes on really well, but if it looks uneven, just keep rubbing in a circular motion. The product is tinted, so it’s easy to see where you have applied it. And any of the unevenness will wash off when you shower (at least 8 hours later). I put it on in the morning and then shower before I go to bed because it does get on my sheets if I don’t.
In an ideal world, I would do this twice a week. Realistically, I usually do it once a week. To keep some color in between, there are a couple more products I use. One is the Coola Sunless Tan Anti-Aging Face Serum, which I apply at night before bed. I love this stuff. It feels great and smells amazing; it doesn’t smell like self tanner at all. It’s very subtle, but keeps a nice glow on my face. The other product I love is the St. Tropez Gradual Tan Everyday Tinted Body Lotion. This is a great product to make my color last longer, or if I haven’t self tanned and need some color immediately, this product is quick and easy to apply. I don’t use a mitt to apply it (I just wash my hands after) and usually I just do my arms and legs.
I’ve tried other self tanners, but St. Tropez is the best and worth a little more money! It doesn’t have an awful smell and the color is SO pretty and natural-looking.
