Trader Joe’s Haul
Happy Monday! Did everyone have a nice weekend?? Ours was super relaxing. We watched some Netflix (we are watching The Killing right now), grilled out with some friends, gave our pups baths, and spent Sunday biking and brunching. The weather was gorgeous here this weekend!
Is anyone else obsessed with Trader Joe’s? I pretty much go every Monday morning and it’s so relaxing to take my time shopping when it’s quiet in there. I love seeing what other people pick up at Trader Joe’s, so I wanted to share my typical haul with you. I tend to pick up the same things week after week, so I’ll break them down by category. Later this week I will share some things I eat on the regular!

I always pick up stuff to make salads. I also like to sauté a red onion and mushrooms every week because they add so much flavor to salads, cauliflower rice bowls, sandwiches, eggs, etc. I tend to pick up the same green vegetables. We love green beans and zucchini and typically eat both every week. The Steamed Lentils in the produce section of Trader Joe’s are really good and super easy. You just open to package and heat them up! Or we’ll eat them cold on a salad. I don’t eat a lot of fruit, but I usually buy a big container of strawberries every week. I wash and chop them and keep them in the fridge for an easy snack or to add carbs to a meal. I love bananas on a rice cake with almond or peanut butter. Once the bananas ripen, I peel them, cut in them half, wrap them in saran wrap, and freeze them for smoothies.

I love Trader Joe’s nut butters. They are delicious, priced really well, and I love that they come unsalted. Both of the hummuses I listed are pretty low calorie (there is a huge range in the calories in hummus, so I always read the labels). If you haven’t had the Green Goddess dressing from TJ’s, you’re missing out! It’s only 20 calories per serving and delicious. I keep salsa/pico on hand all the time because we eat tacos at least once a week. I love using the Hatch Valley Salsa to pour over frozen chicken and bake; it keeps the chicken super moist. Tomato sauces are the same as hummus: they can range in calories a ton. This Tomato Basil Marinara is SO GOOD that I could literally drink it! And it’s only 50 calories per half cup (some tomato sauces are 90 calories or more). I do a couple different things with greek yogurt. It’s great on a waffle, as a replacement for sour cream, in a smoothie, or I’ll make it into ranch dip and eat it with veggies. It’s the perfect way to add protein if I need it!

These are my three favorite spices of all time! The 21 Seasoning Salute is salt-free, which I love and put on steamed veggies or meat. The Chili Lime Seasoning is delicious on cucumbers or carrots as a snack. Or it’s SO good on mango, watermelon, and pineapple. I also venture to say it would be great for a bloody mary, but I haven’t used it for that (yet). The Everything But The Bagel Seasoning is great on egg whites or really anything and everything haha!

I love keeping various frozen Trader Joe’s foods on hand for when I don’t feel like cooking. I could honestly do an entire post on all the delicious frozen foods they have! They aren’t typically part of our weekly routine, but great for a treat or easy meal when I’m short on fresh food. The Riced Cauliflower Stir Fry is really low calorie and fat, so it’s great for a quick, healthy meal. I’ll add some other veggies and ground chicken and have a meal that’s under 200 calories. The Cauliflower Gnocchi is new for us, I’m excited to try it. Some other frozen Trader Joe’s foods I have had and love (but don’t eat often):

This is my favorite almond milk; I use it for smoothies, cereal, and in my coffee in the morning. We got on a kick of eating egg whites instead of whole eggs when Lance did his first macro-tracking diet, and we’ve just never gone back to whole eggs because of the convenience. Think Thin bars are my go-to snack and an easy grab-and-go breakfast. I always take some with me when I travel. I love that you can buy them by the box at Trader Joe’s. Both of these cereals are delicious and low in sugar and fat. I don’t eat a ton of cereal, but it’s an easy way to get carbs (without much fat) if I need it!

These tortillas are SO GOOD. Two tortillas are just 90 calories and they are a little larger than your typical fajita-size tortilla (but smaller than a burrito tortilla). I use them for taco nights and they make a great wrap sandwich. I’m kind of a sourdough snob (I hate when sourdough doesn’t taste like sourdough). Trader Joe’s sourdough is delicious. Ezekiel Sprouted Grain Bread has been a go-to of mine for years! I use both the sourdough and Ezekiel as toast for breakfast or to make sandwiches. The Brown Rice Cakes are a perfect snack. I can put almond butter on them in the morning and they are still crunchy for my afternoon snack. Confession: I eat at least one Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter cup every single night. Or two. Usually two! They are SO good and very addictive.

I keep shredded cheddar on hand for tacos, mozzarella for pizza or pasta, and parmesan for salads. The Goat’s Milk Cheddar and Toscano cheeses are great for snacking. On the weekend I love to have a cheese/meat plate and some wine. In all honesty, I could eat that for dinner every night LOL! The Genoa and Provolone Snack Packs are great for Lance as a snack (they tend to be a little too high in fat to fit in my macros, but the pack is around 200 calories).

I haven’t been drinking wine very often, so I like to have some teas on hand to have at night, or I will brew them and chill them and drink over ice during the day. Pickled vegetables are an easy way to add flavor, but are low calorie and low carb.
I don’t have a section for meat because I don’t really buy meat at Trader Joe’s. We eat mostly locally sourced, humanely raised meat, so I get my meat from the farmer’s market or other grocery stores that carry the companies I believe in.
