Our House: Before
Happy Friday! I was hoping to have my grocery haul ready for you today, but I’m trying to up my photo game in that area, so I’ll have it for you NEXT Friday! Just to give you a little review: I’m on day 4 of vegan and it’s going great! I really enjoy this type of food. It all feels very fresh and healthy. I haven’t been hungry, but I have been getting a headache at night, and I really believe I’m going through a sugar detox. Sure, I’m eating fruit and even a little dark chocolate, but I have cut back my wine significantly, and in December I was popping these Trader Joe’s toffees like they were carrot sticks! LOL. So in short: so far, so good. Stay tuned for more deets next week and why the heck I’m even going vegan for 30 days!
I thought it would be fun to share the ‘before’ pictures of the house we are renovating! This will be the second house we have built. The first time around we tore the existing house completely down. This time we are salvaging the original structure and foundation, but taking it down to the studs inside. We are adding onto the first floor and going up as well. I am actually REALLY excited to go through the process this way (as opposed to just tearing something down). I think it will be super cool to watch this little ranch transform into our dream home. Soon I will share how our plans are coming, but here is what we are starting with!
This is the current floorplan of the house! This will help you follow along as I walk you through the house.
When you walk into the front door, there is a wall in front of you that creates a sort of ‘entry way.’ This living room is directly to the left when you walk in the front door (the front door is offset to the right of the house). This is staying our living room, but the back wall is coming out, as are the built-ins on either side of the fireplace. The fireplace is staying where it is (but getting a facelift). Unless y’all think I should keep that mirror above the fireplace?? Haha.
If you step into the living room and turn to the right, you enter the dining room. This is going to become a bar that is open to the kitchen and living room (with our pantry behind it).
Next to the dining room is the existing kitchen. This will still be the kitchen in the new house, but the wall between the kitchen and dining room will come down. You can see to the far left a laundry room…that wall comes out, too, and becomes the kitchen.
This is a den that is on the back of the house off the kitchen. When the wall comes down in the living room, it will open into this room which will become our new dining room (and also Lance’s walk in closet will be in this space). Where those windows are will be a HUGE sliding glass door that will open to a new screened porch.
This is where is gets a little confusing because we are adding onto this side of the house (looking at the plans, this is the front bedroom). We are adding an attached, two-car garage in front of this bedroom and to the left of this bedroom is where the downstairs addition is. So this area of the house will ultimately become the hallway we walk into from the garage, along with the mudroom and laundry room.
Second Bedroom and Hall Bath
This section of the house will also be part of the addition. These two rooms will essentially become a hallway and my walk-in closet! The addition will be straight ahead (from where I am standing, so on the far left side of the house) and will be a bedroom (that Lance will use as his office) and our master bath.
The current master bedroom is on the back of the house at the end of the hallway, and it is staying where it is but getting bigger! The door you see in the picture of the bedroom is the current closet (with the bathroom being directly to my left when I took this picture), and that wall is coming down and the whole area will become the new master. The new bathroom is part of the addition and will be to the left. Our new closets will be on either side of where I was standing to take the picture of the bedroom!
We are turning this deck into a screen porch. The window you see in the picture is a window in the current master bedroom, and it’s going to become a door to walk out to the screen porch. The big sliding doors at the back of the living/dining room will also walk out to the screen porch (approximately from where I am standing).
Upstairs will be my office, two bedrooms with a jack and jill bath, a full hall bath, and a bonus room. Or as Lance likes to call it, his home theatre. For someone who didn’t want to build another house, he sure is planning out this home theatre which is apparently going to have a 100 inch TV, a 65 inch TV, and STADIUM SEATING (eye roll). But hey, he gets one room, right?! Haha JK, I kid.
We are working on getting the plans finalized and we’re getting closer! At this point we are making small tweaks to where doors are, moving or taking out or adding windows, and discussing what the exterior is going to look like. The exterior is SO much harder than the inside and I feel like the first time around, I didn’t put much thought into it, so I don’t want to make the same mistake.
Once the plans are finalized I will share them with you. I don’t know about y’all, but I think it’s pretty amazing to take a house like this and completely transform it! Stay tuned for more updates!
