New Year, New Goals

Happy New Year!  New Year’s is the perfect time to reflect on the past year and plan for the year to come.  I love the it for that exact reason.  I think it’s so important to take the time to reflect on what you are thankful for and think about what you want to change.  It’s a great ‘reset’ button.  First up, what I am thankful for.

Boem.  My first baby, my store Boem, continues to be a huge success.  It has surpassed all expectations I ever had when I opened my little business.  It has also taught me SO much and has shaped me into who I am today.  It has made me more tough, A LOT smarter, super hard working, and financially independent.  I don’t take its success for granted for a second, and I know that it’s only as successful as the effort I put into it.

Lance.  I’m thrilled to be in a happy and satisfying relationship for going on 8 years.  I am VERY thankful for Lance and what we have.  He is incredibly thoughtful and always puts me before everything else.  He takes care of our family.  He spoils me.  He is smart and hard working.  He is SUPER generous and cares about other people and the world.

My dog Marley.  I am thankful for both our dogs, but I have had Marley since I was 22 years old, so we have been through a lot.  Lance and I were both convinced that she wouldn’t be here this Christmas, so my greatest gift of all this year was having her all year long.

My employees.  I seriously have THE BEST employees and they all make my life so much easier!

This blog.  I have really enjoyed launching the blog this year.  Even if no one is reading it (but thank you if you are!), it has been really fun for me to document our travels and have a space to talk about fashion.  I have also learned SO much, which I appreciate more and more the older I get!

Our house.  We have an amazing house.  I know we are building a new amazing house in the coming year, but I am super thankful for the house we have.  I don’t take for granted the luxury that we live in!

My family.  I am very thankful to have family that is always there for me no matter what and supports me in anything I need.

Travel.  There is seriously nothing I love more than traveling and I am really thankful that we are able to travel so much this past year!

My health.  I think it is so easy to take health for granted, but it’s something I think about often.  I feel so lucky to be healthy and able to work out and move my body on an almost daily basis!

Now for my 2018 goals.

Volunteer.  This is number one on both my and Lance’s list of resolutions.  We want to give more monetarily, but we also want to volunteer our time ad try to make a difference in our community.  Specifically we hope to work with kids.  If you are local to Charlotte and know of any opportunities, let me know!

Drink more water.  I know that may be silly, but I seriously DO NOT drink enough water, and I think it so important to overall health.  It’s not like I sit at a desk all day with my water cup in front of me; I’m constantly on the move, so it makes it harder.  I’m going to start my day with warm lemon water + collagen peptides, so that will help!  I just downloaded an app on my phone called Drink Water that will alert me with a reminder on my Apple Watch to drink water and it tracks how much I drink.  Stay tuned to find out if that’s annoying or if it works.

Grow my blog.  Growing a business is a long, hard grind, and I knew when I launched my blog that it would be the same way.  I did not think I would have overnight success.   I still have SO much to learn in regards to blogging.  I need to find a balance in the content I’m sharing.  I want it to be personal, but I have this voice in the back of my head that’s like…once it’s out there, it’s out there.  As Lance likes to say, ‘the internet is written in ink,’ and it’s so true.  When I look at how much Boem has changed in 9 years, I know that it takes time to find your voice and create a ‘brand.’  So I’m patient, but it’s also a big goal for 2018.  I want give the blog itself a facelift, improve my photography, and share more varied content.

Those are my big goals!  I also have a few short mantras I want to keep front and center this coming year:

Be kind.  Judge less.  Love more.  Give grace.

What are your goals this year?  Do you make resolutions?  We always kick off some kind of diet in January, and this year we chose vegan!  Stay tuned for all the details on Friday!  Thanks for reading!
