Latest Beauty Buys
Happy Friday! Y’all, how is it September 1st?! Any fun plans this Labor Day weekend?? It’s the unofficial end of summer!! Fall is actually my FAVORITE season, so I’m excited for cooler days, fires, pumpkin spice lattes, football…and all things fall! The only thing I will really miss is the longer daylight. That’s always the worst, isn’t it?? I have no real plans this weekend…I’m working in the store on Saturday, I would like to check out a new brewery in my neighborhood, Resident Culture, and I have been craving ice cream, so that’s about all that’s on my to-do list LOL! Super busy over here.
Totally off topic, but my friend Natalie just wrote a very personal blog post and I thought it was remarkable, so I wanted to share. She is spot on that no one likes to talk about divorce, or really anything dark in general, and I am so proud of her vulnerability in sharing her story. It is from this space of truth (even in darkness) that we grow and learn. I know what she is sharing will resonate with a lot of people. She shares some awesome quotes, and I love the idea that our hardest struggles break our hearts open to let more light in. We need to be proud of even our darkest moments because they shape us into who we are. Find her post HERE.
I have tried out some new beauty products lately, so I wanted to share them with you. I kind of have an issue…I LOVE beauty products! I’m sharing some new things I have tried and loved (and some I didn’t like), along with a few of my tried and true favorites!
I have been using Pureology shampoo and conditioner for a while now and I am obsessed. I switch between the Hydrate and Perfect for Platinum shampoos, and I use the Strength and Cure conditioner. All Pureology products are designed for color-treated hair, contain 100% vegan ingredients, have no sulfates, and are not tested on animals. They smell incredible and the shampoos are super foamy, which is my favorite. I like to switch up my shampoos, which is why I use two…and I have just added a new product to the mix!
I know, my hair is super dark, so it seems weird to use products for blonde hair! This brand also makes a Perfect Brunette line, but it says that if your hair has been lightened at all to use the Blonde line, and I do have lighter ends. My hair tends to get super brassy and I hate it, so my hairdresser recommended these products. I love them and feel like my color is looking great. If you struggle with too much warmth in your hair, check these out! I use each once a week.
I love St. Tropez products. My go-to is the Self Tan Dark Bronzing Mousse. It’s kind of a process to apply though, so I was looking for something a little bit easier. I had heard the in-shower gradual tanner is good, so I bought that along with the gradual daily self-tanner in Dark. I did not have luck with the in-shower gradual tanner. Part of the issue is that I like to use the ‘dark’ products because I have naturally olive skin. If you are naturally pale, it may work better. It’s definitely easy to use and apply. Now the lotion I LOVE. It goes on easily, evenly, and tans quickly. I’m trying to figure out how often to use it, and I’m thinking three times a week will be perfect. I find that it’s more instant than gradual…I just applied it yesterday and I have a great glow today.
I haven’t had a lot of luck getting my face to stay tan with self tanner. I think scrubbing my face twice a day and taking make up off, plus using masks at night make it hard for the self tanner to ‘stick.’ I wanted something to make my face darker and this product has been perfect. I put it on after my lotion and it has a great glow to it. It’s pretty dark, but you could use less or it would also be great to use only on your cheekbones.
I am TOTALLY OBSESSED with these masks. Tata Harper is made with 100% natural and non-toxic ingredients. They even have a farm where they grow ingredients for their products! You can read all about it HERE. I am mostly using the Moisturizing and Purifying Masks, once a week each, and then throwing the Resurfacing Mask in there every other week. I’m finding the older I get, the more important it is to take care of my skin, and it’s not something to skimp on either. One thing my skin craves is moisture, so the Moisturizing Mask is what I started with and fell in love with. I sleep with it on and it makes my skin super glowy.
I saw several other bloggers post about this, so I had to try it. It is awesome for dark circles. Now this is a SERIOUS concealer and super full coverage, but it doesn’t get flaky or creasy, which is the issue with most full coverage products. I am using the Light Neutral. I do find that it’s so thick that I need to use a beauty blender, linked HERE. You just wet the beauty blender and tap the product in with it, it’s the best!
I love a bar soap for whatever reason…I just foam it up on my loofah. I have used this same brand and scent of lotion for a while (linked HERE). It has a great consistency…it’s thin enough to go on easily and smells INCREDIBLE. It is such a nice, clean, light scent. When I saw the soap, I had to have it, and it’s the best! At $15 and with such pretty packaging, it would make a great gift, too.
This is another Fresh product I have used for a while and am obsessed with. It feels like chapstick and is super moisturizing, and the rosé gives the most natural-looking lip color. It’s like your lip color, just better.
This is the lipstick I wear most often if I want a little more color. I like nudes, but often they are too light or too brown…it’s hard to find one that’s just right. This one is JUST right for me. It has enough color and enough pink in it that it’s super flattering!
R+F Lash Boost
OK, I haven’t actually tried this product yet because it’s been out of stock, but I seriously CAN’T WAIT to get mine. I have tons of friends using it, and the results are insane. Seriously insane. Latisse bothers my eyes, and I have been using Neulash, which has not worked well for me. You have to order Rodan + Fields through a rep, so if you are interested, you can reach out to my friend Bianca at firstname.lastname@example.org. It’s back in stock on September 7th!
I love all Oribe products. When I heard ‘plumping’ and ‘mousse,’ I knew I had to try this one. I love a mousse…I have naturally curly (but thin) hair, and it’s just enough hold but doesn’t weigh my hair down. I had to get used to the product a little bit and figure out how much to use, but once I did, I loved it. I use about a golf ball size of product and I think the key is to brush it through your wet hair. The best way I know to describe the result is that it gives my hair ‘texture.’ I love it, and it definitely makes my hair look more full.
So last but not least, this is what I have been using for skincare as of late. I love the story behind this brand. It all started with a mom, Christy, who was diagnosed with cancer and wanted to find safe products to use on her skin and her daughter’s. She couldn’t find anything she loved, discovering that most teen skincare products have harsh and potentially harmful ingredients. She decided to create a solution herself, and willa skincare was born, designed for teens.
Eight years later, after formulating willa for teens, Christy created Willing Beauty for women. She knew other women shared her desire for high performance skincare that was safer, delivered results, and wouldn’t irritate the skin. I love thess products because you don’t have to sacrifice safety to see results!
There is more and more press about how important what we put on our skin is. Unfortunately, most products are filled with harsh chemicals. There is virtually NO regulation in the U.S. for beauty products. I love that these products deliver results without all the crap. The products are free of parabens, sulfates, DEA, phthalates, mineral oils, chemical sunscreens, synthetic fragrances, and never tested on animals. And my skin looks great! Check them out…you can buy the full kit pictured above or individual pieces.
Enjoy the weekend!
